Featherston’s own railway
Clifford Square, situated in the heart of Featherston township, is slowly being transformed with a sparkling new ‘ride-the-rail’ miniature train railway and is soon to be known as the Mini Fell Complex. There will be a grand opening of stage one and a celebration for the 2016/17 summer season at the Mini Fell Train Carnival on Saturday 3 September 2016. The Mini Fell Society came about in 1999 when a group of visionaries built a replica of the Rimutaka Incline Fell engine. The original Fell engine is now housed in the museum across the road. The ‘Mini Fell’ was the Society’s first engine and within four years a track was laid around Clifford Square in the centre of Featherston.
