Draft proposal for Wairarapa District Council
On Tuesday 14 March all Wairarapa councils met with the Local Government Commission to discuss its draft proposal for a Wairarapa District Council. This has already been a long consultation process. It began in May and June 2013 when the Local Government Commission received two applications for changes to the structure of Wellington local authorities. These were an application from the South Wairarapa, Carterton and Masterton District Councils for a single unitary council for the whole of the Wairarapa and an application from the Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) for a unitary council for the whole of the Wellington region, including Wairarapa.
