Locals nurture our community wetland

The plants are thriving at the Community Wetland just off Harrison Street East. Recently on a beautiful Sunday morning we returned to the wetland to care for the plants and catch up over some lunch. The plants are looking awesome and they have flourished. It has been two years since the community first planted out a corner of the wet paddock with 430 plants. We planted cabbage trees (tī kōuka) and flax (harakeke) and 57 people turned up to help. We had to go back a few weeks later to replant some of the harakeke as cheeky pūkeko had pulled about 80 of the young plants out of the ground.
