The sky’s the limit for historic local site

A ruined and authentic heritage building just south of Featherston could become a key attraction for people wanting to experience the Wairarapa region’s night skies. Mouldering tōtara planks and steel rails from the night sky observatory built by amateur astronomer Stephen Carkeek in 1868 sit in a paddock as planning begins to preserve these unique remains of a Category 1 listed heritage building.
