Looking for adventure sparks fundraiser idea
Saturday 11 July dawned cloudy and cool. The temperature was low but anticipation was high as the heavyweight of trucks – a big shiny black Mack – lead a convoy of fifty-plus classics, hotrods and vintage cars out onto the main street of Featherston. These beautiful cars assembled at the Empire Hotel and headed off on the first inaugural Cruise organised by local car enthusiast team, Wai-Wheels Featherston.
The purpose of the Cruise was to bring together local car enthusiasts in Featherston and to showcase their cars, their town and
their community. This proved to be an outstanding success as we were joined by visitors from Masterton, Carterton, Greytown and Martinborough. Big thanks to members of the Ramrodders Club, the Manawatu Mustangs, the Greytown Vintage Car Club and all the individuals who shined their cars up and travelled to support us with the Cruise.
The convoy headed out from Featherston and down Western Lake Road, winding its way through our scenic countryside, where one could enjoy a leisurely pace surrounded by native flora and an occasional glimpse of the odd kereru high in the treetops. We followed the East West Access Road, where we were greeted by and shared the road with a herd of cows who, with a twitch and blink, headed down the road to greener paddocks, leaving us truly aware we were in the country.
