Songbirds join Gentlemen for special show

It seems incredible that it is almost 17 years since an informal group of about six singers gathered with the intention of starting a choir. Within two weeks there were 12, which soon swelled to 20, and the number has remained constant over the years, with many comings and goings, but always with a firm nucleus of original members.

The Featherston Gentlemen Singers are about to present a concert at Anzac Hall on Sunday 12 September at 4pm to celebrate their 17th birthday. They will be joined by the Songbirds from Masterton, who are celebrating their 10th birthday. Both choirs
will present a bracket of songs on their own before joining together to provide some rousing renditions of some well-known songs. The repertoire for the concert is varied – everything from Gershwin to Burt Bacharach and Billy Joel, as well as some interesting arrangements of more traditional songs.

Traditionally the Gentlemen Singers have been the curtain raiser for the Japanese Chor-Farmer choir, but sadly Covid has meant they have not been able to travel for the last two years. We know Featherston audiences greatly look forward to this event. Hopefully this concert will go some way to fill the void.
