Windy Wheels pedal-ready for summer.

It has been great to see the Windy Wheels community bike track being enjoyed this year. It looks like we will be spending
more time socialising outdoors this summer, so it’s good to have another place to enjoy spending time together. The team from BikeReady has been teaching the Pedal Ready programme at all three Featherston schools this term. Sean Linton also came to work with our young Bike Monitors, who will look after the fleet of bikes as well as make them available to tamariki during lunch breaks.

This term students from Featherston School | Te Kura o Paetumōkai have been exploring skills track and pump track design.
A skills track takes the rider over a series of obstacles. This track is often the most challenging and is particularly good for
improving hand-eye co-ordination.

A pump track is very similar to a small BMX track. If done correctly the children do not pedal but actually “pump” their bikes up
and down the slopes to get around the track. This track is usually the most popular with children as for many it is the most fun of the three tracks.
