Celebrating 100 years!

Pat Flynn is a regular at our weekly Wisdom and Wellbeing group. A bubbly, capable, strong lady, it is often hard to believe that she is 100 years old.
You may recall last May’s Phoenix article celebrating her 99th birthday and the launch of her book – A Life Well Lived, Recollections of a Teacher and Mayoress in South Wairarapa.
Patricia Ellen Flynn Twiss was born on the 1 April 1924 at a maternity home in Newtown, Wellington.
Her parents lived in Lyall Bay at the time, she was the oldest of four, moving to Invercargill in early 1925. Then just before Christmas 1935, the whole family returned to Wellington.

She completed her education in Wellington and in February 1942 she started at the teacher training college in Kelburn. Pat’s first job was at Miramar North school, followed by various other relieving teacher placements then in 1946 she got a job as an assistant teacher at Pirinoa School.
