Community unites for sports festival

The Wāhine Unite festival held last month shone a spotlight on the many opportunities for women and girls to be active in Featherston.
Held at the rec, the event was a chance for locals to connect with wellbeing providers, have a go at different sports and activities and celebrate the diversity of clubs here in our community.
It was made possible through Manatū Wāhine’s one-off Physical Activity and Wellbeing Fund that was established last year. The fund was aimed at improving access for women and girls to sport and active recreation activities to support their wider wellbeing. Hana Makin (formerly of Fab Feathy fame) felt Featherston had a lot of amazing community clubs and groups offering opportunities to local wāhine, so, with the willing hands of co-organisers Jo Baldwin, Antonia Kilmister-Thompson, Tiff North and Nifo Ili, set out to showcase some of that active community spirit.
